Skateboards
Welcome to the exciting world of skateboarding!
On this website, you will find information about the origins, history and evolution of skateboards and skateboarding, different types of skateboards, skateboarding culture, and other online resources related to skateboarding.
Skateboarding, which has its origins in the 1950s Californian surfer culture, may be anything from an occasional hobby or convenient mode of transportation to a highly developed and sophisticated art form. Those who practice skateboarding on a regular basis, or identify themselves strongly with the activity, are known as skateboarders, or skaters. This makes a uniform social categorization of skateboarders hard, since anyone, of any age, social views, or cultural and artistic preferences, may like skateboarding for one reason or another.
Skateboarding has gone through various phases of development and popularity since its inception. Elaborate skateboarding tricks have been developed, the most famous of them being the “ollie,” named after its inventor, Alan “Ollie” Gelfand. With the widespread popularity of skateboarding, spreading from California, through the United States, into the entire world, special skateboard shops have popped up, selling skateboards and skater equipment (skater shoes, etc.) And those who are deeply devoted to the art of skateboarding form a diverse skateboarding culture, with its own skateboarding magazines.
Whether you’re absolutely new to skateboarding, or have some knowledge about it; or perhaps you’re even a dedicated skater; we hope that you’ll enjoy browsing through the tabs on this site, and find it informative.
